The need for interdisciplinary research appears to be contemporary but its importance is well established. Due to the complexity of human health, emphasis is increasingly being placed on the need for conduct of multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary health research. The availability of new techniques and technologies to answer important medical questions is accelerating at a breathtaking pace. In response to these exciting new opportunities, analogous fields of science have broadened their research portfolios.
