Dr. Shailendra Saraf, Formar Vice chancellor Durg University (C.G.),Professor and former Director, University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur (C.G.). Prof. Shailendra Saraf is a leading scientist and well-known academician in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. He is an alumnus of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. H. S. Gour University, Sagar (MP). He obtained his B.Pharm in 1986; M.Pharm in 1988 and Ph.D 1993 from Department of pharmaceutical sciences Dr. H.S.Gour University Sagar. He then served his alma mater as senior research fellow from 1988-94 SRF. He initiated his career as Lecturer at B.N. College of Pharmacy Udaipur Rajasthan in 1994 and shifted to BR Nahata College of Pharmacy Mandsaur (M.P.) in 1995 as principal and established a model pharmacy college. Later he joined University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University as professor and director in 2002 a NAAC A accredited University. Since then he has been serving his institute with all sanctity and devotion for its all round development. He has been successful in fetching grants of 13 crores from various governments and funding agencies which indicates his dynamism and enthusiasm for his institute and research. His institute has been bestowed with 22nd NIRF Ranking 2016 and Dr. Baburam Saxena Award for best department in the university consecutively for the years 2013-14 and 2014-15. He has been instrumental in developing pharmacy regulations and standardization of pharmacy education as member of PCI, AICTE, UGC and many other central regulatory bodies. He has successfully organised 12 national seminars, workshops and conferences during last ten years. In addition to his administrative and organizational abilities he is a distinguished academician and researchers with more than 172 research publications, 100 presentations with h index of 23 and g index 52. He has contributed 2 text books and several book chapters in national and international publications. He has supervised 16 Ph.Ds and 25 M.Pharm students. He has current research projects amounting more than 50 lakhs. He has also applied for 11 patents. Prof. Saraf is instrumental in establishing Drug information centre in C.G. state and has been involved with Notation centre for natural resource a multicrore project of DST for utilizing rich flora of Chhattisgarh state for its medicinal properties. Prof. Saraf has been elected as Vice President, Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi. He is the first academician from central India elected to this prestigious post. He is also President of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association State Branch, Chhattisgarh. Recently he has been awarded prestigious APTI Principal of the Year Award 2016 and IPA Fellowship 2016 for significant contribution in the field of Pharmacy. He is the Founder-President of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI); Chhattisgarh State Branch and Founder-President, Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) Chhattisgarh State Branch. He is executive Member of Indian Society of Pharmacognosy and Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Education Division. He is also a permanent Invitee to CEC, Indian Pharmaceutical Association, University Grant Commissions and NAAC (UGC-NAAC) and National Board of Accreditation (NBA). He is a life member of various national bodies like IPA, ISP, APTI, ISTE AND MPPGA. His research interest extends from herbal drug standardization ,modern analytical techniques, to new drug delivery systems. Dr. Saraf ‘s continuous sincere and committed representation at central council will definitely be a boom to the pharmacists of the state and nation.

Prof. Babu L. Tekwani

Babu Tekwani, Ph.D., directs the Infectious Disease Department within Southern Research’s Drug Discovery Division. The department focuses on the disease-causing mechanisms and novel therapeutic and vaccine approaches for a diverse array of pathogens, with the objective of identifying novel mechanisms, targets and strategies for the prevention and treatment of protozoal, bacterial and viral infectious diseases throughout the world. Tekwani has spent more than 30 years researching tropical parasitic diseases such as malaria and leishmaniasis, vector-borne infectious diseases, and major global health threats. His work has identified potential new targets and sources for therapies against these diseases. Some of his most recent work focuses on developing a targeted drug delivery approach for a safer and more effective antimalarial therapeutic relative to currently used strategies against the disease for U.S. troops and global travelers. His research has been funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command. Prior to his appointment at Southern Research, Tekwani worked at the University of Mississippi, where he served as principal scientist and professor of pharmacology at the School of Pharmacy’s National Center for Natural Products Research. Before joining the University of Mississippi in 2001, he worked as a scientist in the Biochemistry Division at the Central Drug Research Institute in Lucknow, India. He was awarded an international fellowship by the Fogarty International Center National Institute of Health and completed post-doctoral research training at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Penn State College of Medicine. Tekwani received a doctorate in biochemistry from Lucknow University, a master’s degree in biochemistry from G.B. Pant University in Pantnagar, India, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rajasthan University in Jaipur, India. He has published more than 225 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has been issued two patents. His research has been recognized with several awards, including a career development award of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/World Health Organization Tropical Diseases Research, The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy Faculty Research Award, and the Distinguished Scientist Award for Global Health Drug Discovery and Global Challenges in Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Professor Kanwar is the group leader and laboratory head of Nanomedicine-Laboratory of Immunology and Molecular Biomedical Research in School of Medicine, Faculty of Health at Deakin University. His earlier research (for nearly a decade in New Zealand) has focused on studying pathophysiology and devising new treatments mainly for cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases. Prof. Kanwar is currently working on nanotechnology/nanomedicine based protein/peptide, aptamers and his research approach employs monotherapy (gene therapy, immunotherapy) and combinational therapy with commercially available chemotherapeutic agents including LNA-aptamers (RNA/DNA), peptides and other biomolecules such as siRNA, miRNA, aptamers, proteins, siRNA, miRNA and their chimera (LNA-aptamer chimera with siRNA/miRNA delivery for targeting expression of survivin (the validated anti-cancer target), HIF-1 and apoptotic signalling molecules’ in cancer and chronic inflammation.

Dr. Markanday Ahuja is an eye surgeon and presently working as Vice-Chancellor, Gurugram University, Gurugram, Haryana. He did his MBBS, MS from PGIMS Rohtak and joined as eye surgeon in Baba Mast Nath Eye Hospital. He has completed 28 years of service with over 2.5 Lacs surgeries under his belt and more than 28 Lacs treated as outdoor patients. From hospital to University was his Vision and Mission. He did the impossible; possible and served it for two terms of Vice-Chancellor. Dr. Ahuja is an excellent orator, avid reader and meticulous writer. He has written over 20 books. Out of these books Eye Care, Jeewan Prabandhan & Swami Vivekananda, Vyakti Nirmaan and Naitik Mulye evam Charitra Nirmaan are very famous. Recently 2 of his books have been published by Haryana Sahitya Academy. He has written more than 500 articles in various national and international journals and magazines. He has shown his active participation in social works. Such as blood donation, eye donation, save girl child, save environment, drug de-addiction and much more. Till now he himself has donated blood 85 times at the age of 55. He is Executive Council Member of Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Health University and Haryana School Education Board, Bhiwani and is an executive member of Shiksha Niti Aayog. He is editor and patron of many magazines and journals. He has been bestowed the award of best social worker by Haryana State Social welfare department in 2015 and has also been awarded by Governor Haryana for outstanding social work in 2016. He has delivered lectures in more than 1300 National and Inter-National institutions.
